32-Way IP CCTV System added to centre’s Fire & Security Protection Portfolio
Choice Fire & Security Solutions has designed and installed a new interior and exterior 32-way IP CCTV system at the Redpoint Climbing Centre in Bristol. This is the latest development in a relationship Choice has had with the centre since 2013, also including fire alarm and intruder systems installations. Choice now maintains Intruder, CCTV, Fire Alarm, Portable Extinguishing and Emergency Lighting facilities at the site.
Former cinema
The climbing centre occupies a former, high-ceilinged, traditional cinema building. The business expanded from part of the site into the full premises in 2016. Redpoint offers a range of climbing wall experiences for adults and children, across the large site which also incorporates a licenced café. It has the capacity to handle large numbers of climbers at any one time. In addition to providing climbing experiences for families, friends, community groups and charities, the centre makes its facilities available free to members of the GB climbing team. This up-and-coming sport gained significant tv coverage during the 2022 European Championships in Munich, following its debut as an Olympic event at Tokyo, 2021.
CCTV also assists daily operations
As well as providing security protection and crime prevention functions, the new CCTV system serves the centre with operational support for day-to-day business activity. Internal cameras have been located such that they provide an audit trail of visitors from arrival, to ensure they have signed induction documents and to check climbers are using the equipment safely. Appropriate signage explains this to customers.
Redpoint, BristolTo account for the complex nature of the building’s structure and internal layout – and replace the existing, piecemeal CCTV provision – the new Choice CCTV installation specified several POE (Power over Ethernet) Switches in central locations to simplify and bring economy to the wiring installation process for the initial 27 cameras. The site was cabled to CAT 6 network standard to future-proof the system. HIK Vision cameras were used throughout: day/night cameras internally and external Color Vu models to provide colour images 24/7. An immediate benefit of this was a drop-off in theft and vandalism where cycles are parked.
Redpoint, BristolAuthorised Redpoint staff can access real time and recorded images from the centre, on- or off-site via digital devices, as required. This provides a vital back-up to the third-party 24/7 fire and intruder alarm systems monitoring service provided by Choice’s preferred partner Scutum.
